Showering With Toddlers

Another weekend has passed me by and it is Monday again.  Ugh!

If you read this post you will know that our area was hit with what they called a Snow Hurricane Thursday night into Friday.  When I awoke Friday morning and looked outside I decided I was due for a snow day.  It's a good thing too because there was no way I would ever have gotten out of my driveway.

It was so nice being home on a week day. I even stayed in my jammies much longer that I normally do.  Usually I am up, showered, make-uped, and coffeed well before the rest of the house is up for the day.  But it was a snow day.  Snow days are meant to be lazy days.

Because I did not shower pre-household wake up, I decided Friday would be a good time to attempt my first shower when the boys are up and playing.  Yes, the boys will be 2 next month (OMG!) and I have never showered while they are up and playing.

I closed our bedroom door, closed the baby gate, and kept the bathroom door open so I could hear the boys playing in their room and their toy room just across the hall.

Lets just say it was quite comical.

Marcus turned the light off in the bathroom and would NOT turn it back on.

Maddox had the shower curtain pulled open half way watching me the whole time saying, "Hi, Hi, Hi" while I froze my ass off.

I kept asking over and over if one of them would turn the light on.  No deal.

Do you know how hard it is to shower in the dark, with the curtain half open, freezing your tush off all the while you keep repeating:

"Boys, what are you doing?"
"No, we don't play with toilet paper."
"Can someone please turn the light back on?"
"Mommy will be out in a minute."
"Can you please close the curtain?"
"I'm almost done."
"You're being such good boys!"

It was the fastest, yet longest shower of my life.  And of course, as soon as I finished, opened the shower curtain the rest of the way, I looked at Maddox and asked, "Will you please turn the light on for mommy?" He went right over and turned on the light.  Thanks.

All in all, I think it was pretty successful being the first time and all.  But I don't think I'll be doing it again any time soon.  I rather enjoy my quiet, warm, illuminated morning shower.

  1. Thank you so much for making me laugh this morning!! I so remember putting the girls in their bouncers in the bathroom, all the while washing my hair as fast as I could, and singing them silly songs..I still don't like to get one when the girls and their 20 month old sister are awake. I worry to much. Oh, too funny!! Thanks again!

  4. I can't believe you've gone all this time without having to shower while they're awake! I have to do it every morning since we moved-I used to have to get up before them, but now I enjoy the extra half hour of sleep. I put one baby in the doorway jumper and one in the jumparoo. They are usually very good, but if they whine I sing songs and remind myself that they can't go anywhere and they are just fine!

  6. Oh, this was good! I can't believe neither of them actually entered the shower with you. I guess it was more fun to be mischievous and listen to you squalk. LOL!

  7. Oh no!!!! This is why I always try to shower when G is either (A) sleeping or (B) being occupied by her father. And that doesn't always work!

  8. Funny!! That is why I will not shower unless they are asleep or someone is home to watch them :-)! So you know, some days are just not shower days - haha. Although I will now shower with my 3 year old in my bed, while the 19mos old is sleeping, but the ever "funny" game of peek-a-boo with him finding mommy and leaving the shower curtain open, then slamming the door to the bathroom shut (remember the statement that the younger one is trying to sleep, yeah) is getting a little old!
