When Opportunity Knocks

When opportunity came-a-knockin', I opened the door.

If you follow me on twitter, you probably read these teazers:

It's amazing the path that our lives lead us.

If you would have told me on Saturday, April 17, that I would be giving my notice to a company that I have worked very hard for these past 11 years, I would have told you you were on drugs.

I got a phone call from a friend that Saturday.  The boys were down for a nap and I was just going about my normal nap time business (of nothing).

That friend had an opportunity for me.  An opportunity that would allow me to work closer to home.  An opportunity that would allow me more time with my children. An opportunity for stability.  An opportunity that could very well secure my future.

A complete career change, including a significant pay cut.

I never thought I would say this, but the money isn't important.  I mean, of course money is important, but the ability to obtain all of those above opportunities heavily outweigh the money.

So after a few interviews, I was offered the position, and I happily and eagerly accepted.

I began my current career at the young age of 19.  A manager gave me a chance, because I reminded him of his daughter.  I thank that man every day for the doors he opened for me.  I went from Accounts Payable Clerk, to Accounts Receivable Clerk, to Credit Assistant, to Order Entry, to Office Administration, to Human Resources Administrator.

I am giving up the corporate world for something totally and completely different.  Law.  Crime.  Attorneys.  Judges.  My career has turned down a different path.  I am going to be a Court Clerk at a neighboring town, working directly for a judge, supporting the daily court activities as well as some nightly court activities.

I am super excited to make this change.  It is time.  It is time to choose what is right for me and what is right for my family.  I can not wait to begin this new journey.  Monday, May 17 to be exact.

Thank you for all the well wishes on twitter yesterday.

Thank you to my family, for supporting me in this decision. Without my husband, sister, fairy godmother and friends, this new journey would not have been possible.

It's going to be an interesting, fun and exciting new adventure.  I hope you stick around for the ride.

  2. Congrats again! That's super exciting. I agree there are many benefits that are way more important than the amount of a paycheck alone. I work in the court system (state prosecutor's office), and I love, love, love it. One thing I can tell you for sure...it never gets boring! Good luck!!
