Is it really Monday already? How is it the weekend goes by so fast, but the work week goes by at a snail's pace?
Our weekend was pretty uneventful, you know, a typical weekend filled with playing, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, followed by more playing.
Friday night I went to a jewelry party just up the street. If you read this post, you already know that it was our first experience with a teen-aged babysitter. Thanks to all of you for your words of ecouragement. By Friday I was feeling ok about it, actually looking forward to it.
I had the sitter come an hour early. I figured I'd show her around, let her get to know the boys and play with them while I got ready. Well...an hour was WAY too early. The boys weren't even phased by her. Nor did they care I was even getting ready to leave them with her. Because of this, I knew the sitter was going to be just fine and I didn't want to hang out at home much longer hovering over her. Luckily, the jewelry party up the street is a friend of mine, so I called and asked if I could come early and as luck had it...she said yes...and that they already had the cocktails flowing.
Speaking of cocktails...I had the YUMMIEST drink, Bubble Gum Vodka and Sprite! Yes...Bubble Gum Vodka. It was SUPER tasty. The highlight of my night I must say.
I got home at 8 so I could show the sitter what our bedtime routine is like. When I walked in, the boys were chilling in their bean bag chairs, having a snack, and watching their favorite show Yo Gabba Gabba. They were pooped...a sure sign they had a fun evening.
As soon as I went to snuggle them the sitter started picking up the toys. Yes...you read that right...SHE WAS PICKING UP THE TOYS!!! Total bonus points for her.
I asked how it went and she said they were very good boys. She did forget to give them their sippy-cups of milk with their snack, but that's no biggie. I figured since they didn't have her tied up in a corner somewhere that it was a success! I will certainly be calling her again. This time for a MUCH needed date with my husband.
She was at our house for three hours. I gave her $25, so about $8.00 per hour. Does that sound like enough?
I am really, really glad I finally took the leap to have her over to watch the boys. I didn't worry about her once while I was gone. I actually got to relax, and enjoy myself.
To any of you who are contemplating this, I say go for it!!! Next time I'll let her put them to bed and stay out a little later :-)
The going rate for us is $10 an hour but those are for non-teenage baby sitters. 8 is above minimum wage. Glad to hear that things went so well!
ReplyDeleteso glad it went well for you! $8 is definitely fair, I'm 25 and that's about what I expect when I babysit ;) I say 10 when people actually ask, but I'm also 25. I'll take what I can get lol!
